Conversations In Nosgoth - Chapter Five

A Sarafan Guard talking to a servant in the water pool room:

Sarafan Guard:
Finish your work and come up. We're locking the main stairs.

Servant:
But, what? I've just begun down here. We never lock the main stairs at this time of day.

Sarafan Guard:
We've had word there may be an intruder.

Servant:
An intruder? What, down here? Yes, I'm all finished here, sir.

A servant and a woman talking behind a Ward Gate as Kain enters the ornate main halls of the Keep:

Woman:
You there. What's the matter? I saw guards running down the stairs.

Servant:
I've no idea, M'lady.

Woman:
Go and find out. Is it a fire? An attack of some kind?

Servant:
Perhaps we should wait until someone comes and tells us.

Woman:
Did you hear me? Do you know who I am?

Servant:
M'lady, perhaps I should simply escort you to the garrison. Certainly they would be able to tell you there what is the matter.

Woman:
Oh, very well.

A Sarafan Knight talking to a servant on the balcony above him:

Sarafan Knight:
You up there! Have you seen anyone pass that you haven't seen before?

Servant:
Not a soul has passed me, sir.

Sarafan Knight:
Ah, keep your eyes open. We may have an intruder.

Servant:
Yes, sir, you can depend on me, sir.
My grandfather was in the guards, don't you know? Until he lost his leg. Perhaps you've heard the story? Someone closed the gate on him before they knew he was there, but then his officer -

Sarafan Knight:
Just keep a good watch.

Servant:
Yes, sir. I will, sir.

Nobleman Artemis looking at the murals, talking to his Sarafan Knight escort:

Artemis:
Hm, an average imitation...
Actually rather pathetic to the discerning eye...
I assume the artist was jailed?

A servant at the bottom of the spiral staircase who will talk to Kain:

Servant:
Ah, pardon me, sir, I don't believe anyone is allowed up here. You see, we believe there may be a, er, vampire on the premises. The guards have locked all the doors, and the upstairs lever is acting a bit spotty. Bloody thing keeps resetting itself.
I would just return downstairs.

A man discussing business with a Sarafan Knight, ending with the man's murder:

Man:
All of my merchants have deliveries waiting. I don't understand the delay; I need my payment.

Sarafan Knight:
We will not be making any further payments.

Man:
But our agreement -

Sarafan Knight:
Conditions have changed. Our agreement has been suspended.

Man:
I have deliveries waiting. I can't send them back.

Sarafan Knight:
Throw them into the sea for all I care.

Man:
Throw them?

Sarafan Knight:
We won't be needing them.

Man:
But my contract! I can go to a higher authority over this.

Sarafan Knight:
I suggest you take your losses without another word and go!

Man:
I'll talk to the council. We won't stand for this.

Sarafan Knight:
By order of the Sarafan Lord you shall do no such thing!

Man:
Wait! What are you doing?
